Jedd Flowers, long-time communications director for Cabell County Public Schools, has been named executive director of United Way of the River Cities. Flowers takes the helm after an extensive months-long search following the retirement of Carol H. Bailey this past July.
United Way of the River Cities invites nonprofits to submit LOIs
The first step of the process is a letter of intent (LOI). LOIs are due Friday, Aug. 18. Programs that are eligible to apply will be required to attend a mandatory virtual meeting, date to be determined.
United Way dedicates new park to public health advocate
Drivers who travel on Madison Avenue on the west end of Huntington may have noticed an increase in activity in the large grass lot beside the United Way of the River Cities offices. That’s because a brand-new park has been created as a gift to the community from the UWRC in celebration of its centennial anniversary in 2022.
UWRC welcomes Gallia County into service area
Effective July 1, 2023, Gallia County will be represented by the United Way of the River Cities following the dissolution of its local United Way. The UWRC, which celebrated its 100-year anniversary in 2022, currently services Cabell, Lincoln, Mason and Wayne counties in West Virginia, and Lawrence County in Ohio.

Volunteers needed for National Day of Service, Remembrance event
At 6 p.m. on Sept. 20 at St. Mary’s Center for Education, volunteers from the community will create Family Emergency Preparedness Starter Kits with sample supplies needed in emergencies, and guidance for how to create and practice a disaster preparedness plan.
