Annual Reports

Our mission is to connect our community with resources to reduce poverty and improve lives. We envision a community where everyone has the tools and opportunity to thrive.

True to our founding spirit, whenever there is a need in our communities, United Way of the River Cities is there. We bring a comprehensive approach to every challenge, actively listening and responding to local needs.

We address the community’s most pressing needs in four impact areas, healthy community, youth opportunity, financial security, and community resilience.

Together, we’re helping mobilizing communities to action by convening coalitions, funding nonprofit partners and internal initiatives, and by measuring results.

When you donate to United Way of the River Cities, you join fellow donors, corporate sponsors, volunteers, community organizations and advocates to help build stronger, more resilient communities.

“Building Stronger, More Resilient Communities.” It is more than a slogan. It is a statement that encompasses United Way’s strategic plan and gives our organization purpose for the future.

For more than 100 years, United Way of the River Cities has worked to address poverty by connecting community resources to those in need. Under our Community Impact model, we strive to ensure all dollars distributed to funded partners are strategically aligned to specific outcomes and carefully evaluated, ensuring accountability for making a difference in at least one of four key focus areas: Health, Education, Financial Stability, and Basic Needs.

The year 2022 marked our Centennial Celebration. This means we’ve marked the completion of 100 years of service and support for our community. From our start in 1922 as the Community Chest, the fundraising arm of the Woman’s Club of Huntington, through our time as the United Fund, then the United Community Services, until our official launch in 1977 as the United Way of Cabell-Wayne to our current status as United Way of the River Cities, we have been a community-driven organization.

Our approach is the same as it always has been: working side-by-side with the community, United Way of the River Cities takes on the critical human services issues facing our friends, families, and neighbors in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason and Wayne counties in West Virginia and Lawrence County, Ohio.
